soap for communities

Bring your community together.
In real life.

Do you organise Erasmus students, first-year students or a university group? We set up your soap community together with you and support you personally through the launch.

soap on a smartphone: the map of Hamburg with events like Coffee Meetup and Welcome Picnic, and groups of contacts with their names.
Why soap

For one semester you do everything together. Then half of you go home, the numbers stay in your phone, and “we should meet up again” never happens. With soap, it turns into an actual plan, in your city and with the people who are already there.

Built for real connections.

soap isn’t designed to keep you in the app for as long as possible. There’s no feed to scroll through in the evening, and nothing that artificially pulls you back. What counts is the time you spend together.

No feed

No endless list and no ranking that decides what you get to see. soap shows who’s around and what’s coming up.

No live tracking

Nobody sees where you are right now. Others see your city and neighbourhood at most, and only if you choose to share them.

No selling of personal data

Your data isn’t sold, rented out or passed on for advertising. There’s no advertising SDK in the app.

Two sides

What’s in it for you and for your members.

For you as organisers

Your dates are in one place and no longer spread across stories, group chats and noticeboards.

  • One calendar for the whole community Official dates and what members plan themselves, side by side.
  • See how many people are really coming RSVPs are right on the event. You know in advance whether you’re planning for twelve or for forty.
  • Change the place or time in one spot You don’t have to repeat the change in three chats and a story.
  • Members suggest something, you approve it If you like, members can also publish directly.
The calendar for the coming weeks in soap: dates like Pub Night, SUP Session and Boat Trip on their respective days.

For your members

The people from the semester stay within reach afterwards, too.

  • See who else is in Members see who else is in the community and can add each other as contacts.
  • Contacts on the map The map shows which city and neighbourhood someone lives in, but only once both have confirmed each other as contacts.
  • Know what’s going on Official community events and private plans are in one place.
  • Stay connected after the semester Moving back to Lyon or Bologna doesn’t mean disappearing from the map.
“SUP on the Alster?” “Who’s coming to bar night tonight?” “Flunkyball in the Stadtpark?”

How soap works

From invitation to meetup.

There are five steps, and for your members it all starts with a QR code.

1

Community

Your group gets its own place in soap, with a name, members and you in charge.

The ESN Hamburg community in soap: 64 members, the tabs Events, Members and Info, and below them four members from different countries with their roles.
2

Invitation

Your members get in with a QR code or a link, for example at the welcome event, from a flyer or from the group chat.

3

Contacts

People who get to know each other add each other. Only then do two people see each other on the map. Being in the same community isn’t enough.

4

Events

You post the official dates, and members also make plans among themselves. Thanks to the RSVPs, everyone knows what to expect.

5

Meetup

What matters in the end is the evening you actually meet.

FAQ
What does soap cost our members?

Nothing. soap is free for users.

How much work is it for us as an organisation?

We do the setup together in one meeting. After that, you mostly announce dates as you already do, just in one place instead of four.

Can members create their own events?

Yes. You decide whether only admins publish, whether members submit suggestions that you approve, or whether members can publish directly.

Can we moderate events from the community?

Yes. With suggestions switched on, a member’s event comes to you first, and it only becomes visible to the community once you approve it.

Does soap use live tracking?

No. There is no continuous location sharing. If they want to, people can share their city and neighbourhood. That is visible only to confirmed contacts, not to the whole community.

Do all community members automatically see each other on the map?

No, that’s deliberate. Being in the same community doesn’t make anyone visible. Only once two people have confirmed each other as contacts do they see what the other person has chosen to share.

Do we have to roll the app out to everyone right away?

No. Many start with a core team and only invite more widely at the next event. Since soap is still in beta, we’ll give you access during onboarding.

Want to try soap with your community?

In a short intro call, we’ll show you soap and talk through your case. After that, we’ll set up your community together.
